ZHUYIN / A PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to save and reuseZhuyin phrases

Make frequent words easier to reach.

Save 生日快樂 with its full reading, reuse the phrase in the keyboard, and export a backup. Your collection belongs to this browser, so a saved file matters.

Follow the guide

A personal phrase is useful when you keep writing the same greeting, name or short expression. This walkthrough saves one example, shows both ways to reuse it, and separates explicit phrases from automatic learning and other typing settings.

01

Save one phrase with a checked reading

Open My phrases. In Phrase, enter 生日快樂, a birthday greeting. In Zhuyin reading, enter ㄕㄥ ㄖˋ ㄎㄨㄞˋ ㄌㄜˋ. Review both fields, then choose Save phrase.

The saved entry keeps a space after ㄕㄥ, its first-tone syllable. It removes unnecessary spaces after explicit tone marks, so the list displays ㄕㄥ ㄖˋㄎㄨㄞˋㄌㄜˋ. That compact display does not remove the syllables or their tones.

Start with a non-sensitive phrase you know. For a word whose reading is uncertain, inspect it in Chinese to Zhuyin first. Its reading rows have a Save phrase action that can prefill this form, but you should still check the intended pronunciation.

02

Reuse the phrase in either of two ways

Choose Use in keyboard beside the saved entry to insert the Chinese text directly. In the verified example, the editor received 生日快樂. Check the editor before copying or exporting, especially if it already contains another draft.

Alternatively, open the Zhuyin keyboard and enter the saved reading in Zhuyin symbols: ㄕㄥ ㄖˋㄎㄨㄞˋㄌㄜˋ. The saved phrase appears among the candidates. This lets you keep composing from sounds without returning to the collection.

Use Edit to correct the text or reading and Update phrase to keep the change. Use Delete only for an entry you no longer want. A personal phrase stores your chosen pairing; it is not proof that a supplied reading is linguistically correct.

03

Understand the settings before changing them

Open Typing settings in the keyboard. Learn my choices remembers selected characters and phrases so they can move toward the front. That is separate from explicitly saving a phrase. It starts off in a fresh profile; turn it on when you want selection history to influence ordering.

Allow typing without tones starts off too. When enabled, our saved greeting was available from ㄕㄥㄖㄎㄨㄞㄌㄜ. Omitting tones can be convenient for familiar text, but it gives the keyboard less information. Keep full tones while learning and review candidates before inserting them.

Compose whole sentences starts on. It combines likely dictionary words across a longer reading, rather than requiring a choice after every syllable. Keep it on for the sentence-typing guide when useful, but check the proposed words. None of these settings can infer your intended meaning perfectly.

04

Export a backup before changing browsers

Return to My phrases and choose Export backup. The file is zhuyin-personal-backup.json. It contains the personal phrase collection, typing settings, learned choices and practice progress. Store it somewhere you can find, and treat it as personal data if your phrases include names or addresses.

To restore it, choose Import backup and select that exported JSON file. Import replaces the corresponding data in the current browser; it does not merge two collections. Export the current collection first if there is anything to preserve.

In our isolated verification, we exported the birthday phrase, deleted it, and imported the same file. The phrase and its normalized reading returned. The backup is for personal typing data, not the Chinese draft in the main editor; save important editor text separately.

A FEW USEFUL DETAILS

Common questions

Do personal phrases require Learn my choices?

No. Explicitly saved phrases work independently of that switch. Learn my choices controls whether your candidate selections are remembered to influence later ordering.

Does Reset learned choices delete my phrases?

No. It clears learned candidate choices while leaving explicitly saved phrases available. It is separate from deleting a phrase or resetting practice progress.

Can I import a text list or spreadsheet?

Import backup expects the JSON backup format exported by this tool. An ordinary text or spreadsheet file is not the same format. Add individual entries through the phrase form.

Can the backup restore my current editor draft?

No. It contains phrases, settings, learned choices and practice statistics. Copy or save your editor text separately before clearing browser data or changing devices.
