Dictionary readings are a starting point. Review names, regional variants and tone changes before studying or sharing.

Make a reading sheet in three steps

  1. Add a short passage.Paste Chinese characters and choose Add Pinyin. Spaces, punctuation and text without a match remain in place.
  2. Review the readings. When a word has alternatives, choose the meaning you intend. Underlined characters have no reading in this lookup.
  3. Take it to your study session.Copy the Pinyin, print the annotated passage or download an HTML sheet that opens in a browser.

A reading aid, with room for judgment

The tool matches dictionary words before falling back to shorter matches. It shows written dictionary tones, so 你好 appears as nǐ hǎo. Spoken tone changes are a separate step.

The vocabulary is strongest for Traditional Chinese and Taiwan Mandarin. Simplified forms, names, rare characters and regional readings may be missing or differ from your course. An alternative is available only when the dictionary contains it.

Questions about Chinese to Pinyin

Does it translate Chinese into English?

No. Pinyin records Mandarin pronunciation. It does not translate meaning or change Traditional characters into Simplified characters.

Why are some characters underlined?

No usable Pinyin reading was found for those characters in the current lookup. A rare spelling or a dictionary file that could not load may be the cause. Try again if the connection was interrupted, or check the word in a trusted reference.

Why can a character have several readings?

A character can have different pronunciations in different words or names. The longest available word match helps, but it is not a guarantee. Use the alternative selector where one is offered and check important passages with your teacher or reference material.

Is my passage saved or uploaded?

This page keeps your passage in page memory and processes it in your browser. It requests public dictionary files as needed; the requested file groups may reflect characters being looked up. Copying, printing or downloading is your choice. Reloading starts a new page session; browser Back/Forward restoration may retain the previous view.
