A short lookup can help you find a character before you can recall its complete Cangjie code. Practice gives you a way to work on that missing knowledge. For 河, “river,” the selected full code is EMNR. This routine compares a shortened ER answer with the complete sequence, reviews the root labels, and finishes by typing 河 on the keyboard.
Pick a target that reveals a useful pattern
Open Cangjie practice. Under Choose a character, select 河 · river from the Keep the full code group. The prompt displays 河 and asks for Your full Cangjie code.
The 24-character set begins with one-key examples, continues through combinations, and finishes with longer codes. You can follow that order or jump to a character that needs attention. Choosing a later item does not mark earlier ones completed.
Look at the written form before checking the hint. The water-side component is a useful starting clue, but the exercise asks for the entire sequence. Use ordinary English letter input so the browser receives the keys you intend.
Use the feedback to recover the middle keys
In the worked check, entering ER and selecting Check answer produces a specific warning: those are the first and last keys, and the exercise needs the middle keys too. The shortened answer does not complete 河.
Select Show code & roots. The hint displays E M N R with 水 一 弓 口. The water side contributes E; the remaining part contributes MNR. Keep those middle M and N keys in their given order.
Enter EMNR and check again. The verified feedback is Correct! 河 → EMNR — that is the full code. Lowercase emnr works too. Do not add spaces inside the sequence, tone digits, punctuation, or Chinese root names.
If you remember only the start of a code, the feedback asks for the remaining keys. If you swap the order, it asks you to check the sequence. Use that distinction to focus your review rather than repeatedly trying unrelated letters.
Separate a completed answer from unaided recall
After the corrected EMNR answer, Completed shows 1 / 24. Unaided first check stays 0 because the first attempt was wrong. The correction is useful progress even though it is not a first-check success.
Opening a character’s hint or its study card before a correct first answer also excludes it from the unaided counter for that session. Hiding the hint afterward does not erase that history. Repeatedly submitting an already completed character does not add another completion.
Use Next character to move on, or choose a familiar example such as 林 to change the pattern before returning to 河. A short pause between attempts can help you check whether you are recalling the sequence rather than copying it immediately.
The counters are session-only. Leaving or reloading the page starts over, and Restart session clears them deliberately. Keep a note of characters to revisit if you want a longer study record; no account or cloud progress history is created.
Confirm that the code produces the intended character
Open the Cangjie keyboard in another tab and enter emnr in Input code. The verified lookup offers 河. Click that candidate, then check the large editor and use Copy text if you want to keep it.
Keep candidate selection separate from recalling the letters. A code can return several characters, and short lookups can mix full codes with Quick aliases. Selecting the wrong result does not necessarily mean the code you remembered was wrong; inspect the candidate itself.
For a new sequence, use Cangjie code breakdown to read its key labels. For a character you know visually but cannot code, use Cangjie code lookup. Neither replaces the recall exercise; they give you a reference to study before trying again.
Finish by writing 河 with EMNR in your notes. Review the MNR group, especially the M and N missing from ER. Next time, attempt the full sequence before opening the hint. That gives the next first check a clear purpose.
Common questions
Why is ER accepted as a lookup but not as this answer?
The keyboard can use a first-and-last-key Quick alias to find candidates. This exercise explicitly checks the selected full code EMNR. It is measuring a different piece of knowledge.
Do I enter the Chinese root names?
No. Type the letter keys, such as EMNR. 水 一 弓 口 labels those keys and helps you remember them; it is not the required text input.
Can I practise without JavaScript?
The interactive checker needs JavaScript. The server-rendered study cards remain available: attempt a code, open its card, and compare your answer manually.
Does the score prove I can type quickly?
No. The exercise has no speed timer and does not assess every character. Its counters describe completion and selected first checks during this session, not typing fluency or a standardized proficiency level.
Bring the missing keys back.
Choose 河, recall EMNR, then test the sequence in the Cangjie keyboard.
